About the Department/Position:
The Facilities Services grounds and landscape staff are highly-skilled individuals that include grounds workers, light equipment operators, gardening specialists, and irrigation specialists. They maintain approximately 170 acres of landscaped grounds with safety, hygiene, and aesthetics as their objectives.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Groundsworker performs grounds maintenance and landscape installation tasks at a high-quality level and in an efficient manner. Position requires the ability to recognize the more common species of ornamental shrubs, trees, and flowers grown in California; perform strenuous physical work; utilize mechanical aptitude and motor coordination; learn to skillfully operate small trucks and power-driven grounds equipment; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position, and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Typical work schedule M – F 5:30 am – 2:00 pm.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Grounds maintenance and landscaping
- Responsible for stringline trimming, hedge trimming, weeding, blowing, seeding, mulching, watering, irrigation maintenance, and minor system repair.
- Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or in general grounds maintenance work or related manual labor.
- Valid CA driver license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of commercial and professional experience in grounds maintenance and landscape installation.
