MSW 520: Social Welfare Policy

The Department of Social Work at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for fall 2024 to teach MSW 520: Social Welfare Policy. The course is a 3-unit class, has one 3-hour class each week of the 15-week semester, and is taught 100% online. The course is scheduled for Thursdays from 5:30-8:20 pm.

Course Description

Examines social welfare policies and services in the United States; diverse social, political, and economic assumptions underlying the social welfare system, including global context; and the role of the social work profession in developing social policy, addressing social problems, and advancing social and economic justice.  

Minimum qualifications

  • A Master of Social Work degree
  • Five years of post-MSW related experience.
  • Two years of experience in a leadership or policy related position in a social service agency/organization
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working within the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensure.
  • A doctoral degree in Social Work or in a closely related field.
  • Experience in teaching university classes and with instructional technology.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
