Job Summary

Under the supervision of the CHHS Director of Operations and under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor, the Technology Support Specialist is responsible for optimizing IT service delivery and support within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). This role ensures efficient support operations, maintains a high level of user satisfaction, and drives continuous improvement in IT service quality through effective incident management, knowledge base development, system deployment, technology support, and classroom technology support.

Key Responsibilities

  • IT Support Operations - Prioritize, assign, and manage technology support and loaner requests through a ticketing system, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Technology Support - Independently troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of technical issues for faculty, staff, and administrators within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS).
  • Classroom Support - Proactively monitor and maintain classroom and computer lab equipment to ensure maximum uptime and user satisfaction.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Independently applies technical judgment to standard and nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of problems and developing practicable and thorough solutions, and use of effective communication and listening skills. Possesses an excellent knowledge of computer technology, ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex computer systems and be able to apply these abilities to the day-to-day support of administration, staff, faculty, and students in the College of Health and Human Services.

Knowledge of data and file structures, database systems and related utilities, and operating systems. This includes knowledge of SharePoint, SQL, Microsoft Office applications, networking protocols, Windows operating systems as this relates to providing information technology support. Skilled in management of complex technical projects which include hardware/software migrations, deployments, upgrades, and updates in order to be able to take appropriate action in response to system failures or inaccessibility.

Ability to communicate technical information to technically diverse audience in a clear and concise manner as this relates to providing information technology support. Ability to train others in complex tasks, technical processes in a clear and simple manner as this relates to providing information technology support. Ability to perform system, database, and network maintenance tasks impacting database creation, management, and security. Ability to independently take the lead on assigned projects from beginning to completion, planning schedules, accordingly, utilize available resources appropriately, meeting deadlines, keeping the IT team informed, solving unforeseen problems, and providing quality work in a timely manner.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Communications, or related technical field and a minimum of two years relevant experience required.

Physical Summary

  • Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Licenses / Certificates

Valid CA Driver's License required.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,158 - $12,730 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
