FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY, 12-MONTH LECTURER

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Social Work enrolls up to 150 students in our full-time CSWE-accredited Master of Social Work program. The Department also recently launched a mostly online, locally focused extended program, which will increase our total MSW enrollment gradually to 225 students over the next three years. The Department is in the process of developing a BSW program, and we are interested in candidates with a strong interest and experience in undergraduate education. The mission of the MSW program is to graduate culturally responsive urban social workers in the areas of Community Mental Health and Children, Youth, and Families. Social work graduates are prepared to address individual, family, group, and community needs caused by inequalities of class and identity including race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, immigration status, religion, and other forms of social injustice. Advocacy and social change around these injustices form the core of the MSW program. Our vision is to create a cadre of diverse leaders to be catalysts for social change and transform oppressive systems in partnership with the communities we serve. DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The Practicum Liaison position is a twelve month, full-time appointment reporting to the Practicum Director. The Practicum Liaison is expected to: work with agency supervisors to maintain and develop Practicum placements within the social work community; and manage and supervise students conducting practicum work for all MSW students.

Specific duties include: coordination and integration of practicum education for our Extended MSW program, ensuring compliance with the Council on Social Work Education’s standards; Development and implementation of a continuous, comprehensive practicum education program evaluation plan; Recruitment of qualified agencies for student placements; Joint administration of practicum related issues with coordinators of funding programs such as the Title IV-E and CalSWEC II grants; assists with the maintenance of files on Practicum agency agreements and letters of understanding.; Participation, when necessary, in the resolution of problems occurring in placements; Updating and maintaining the program Practicum Manual; Developing and updating Practicum Seminar syllabi; Planning and implementation of training seminars for agency Practicum instructors; Attend Faculty Meetings and other relevant Departmental or University meetings; Interface with the social service community and surrounding universities to maintain and build the Practicum Education program; Other relevant duties as assigned. Faculty engage in teaching, and advising, as well as service at the departmental, college, university, and community levels. As an applied discipline, we emphasize community engagement in our teaching, as well as in other aspects of our work. Faculty must be prepared to teach in-person, hybrid, and/or fully online courses. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and Online. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, and assist the department with administrative and/or committee work.

RANK AND SALARY: The full-time 12-month lecturer salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization. This position is grant-based, from the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), Social Work Education Capacity Expansion (SWECE) program, funding to permanently expand an existing MSW program. Grant dates are 1/27/2023 - 6/30/2027 with a total award of $2.4M.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - 12 month classification is available based on the following ranges:

Lecturer - 12 MONTH (Range 2) - $6,288 - $7,658

Lecturer - 12 MONTH (Range 3) - $7,127 - $15,211

Lecturer - 12 MONTH (Range 4) - $7,830 - $16,697

Lecturer - 12 MONTH (Range 5) - $9,883 - $17,490

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

DATES OF APPOINTMENT: This is a temporary, full-time, grant-funded position through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment or extension.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited institution, and at least two years of full-time post-master’s social work experience. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, and community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Condition(s) of Employment
