Position Summary

San Diego State University is seeking a Technology Support Specialist II to provide hands-on IT support across SDSU Imperial Valley campuses.

In this role, you’ll help faculty and staff with the technology they rely on every day—from computers and software to classrooms, labs, audiovisual equipment, and connectivity. Your work will include troubleshooting technical issues, setting up and maintaining equipment, deploying computers and software, and helping users navigate their technology needs.

Note: This position will work onsite at SDSU Imperial Valley Campuses (Calexico, CA & Brawley, CA), which are two hours east of SDSU Main Campus.

What You’ll Do:

Technology Support

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computers, software, operating systems, peripherals, and other technology.
  • Support technology used in offices, classrooms, labs, and other campus environments.
  • Assist with computer and software deployments, equipment moves, upgrades, and standardized configurations.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity and system issues, coordinating with other IT teams when needed.

User Support & Collaboration

  • Work directly with faculty and staff to resolve technology issues and understand their support needs.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to users with varying levels of technology experience.
  • Collaborate with SDSU IT colleagues and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Document incidents and resolutions using ServiceNow.

Systems & Equipment Support

  • Test and maintain software, security configurations, workstations, and other assigned technology.
  • Help identify and evaluate technology tools and equipment based on campus needs.
  • Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance and reliable operation of technology across SDSU Imperial Valley.

We’re looking for a technology professional who enjoys troubleshooting, helping people, and working with a variety of technology.

Experience in the following areas is especially valuable:

  • Hardware, software, and peripheral troubleshooting
  • Windows and/or Mac environments
  • Computer and software setup, configuration, and deployment
  • Basic network connectivity and system troubleshooting
  • Providing approachable, service-focused technical support
  • Classroom, lab, audiovisual, or other specialized technology

Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. 
  • This position will work at both SDSU Imperial Valley campuses, with an anticipated schedule of three days per week at the Calexico campus and two days per week at the Brawley campus. The schedule may vary by semester based on class schedules and campus operational needs. Advance notice will be provided of any schedule changes.

Department Summary

Division IT Operations serves as the primary technology partner for the division, working closely with leadership and staff to support day-to-day technology needs and advance strategic priorities. The unit collaborates with the IT Division to ensure the effective delivery of IT services, timely resolution of technology issues, and clear communication of divisional goals, requirements, and priorities. By maintaining a comprehensive understanding of how technology is used across the division, Division IT Operations helps align technology solutions with operational, administrative, and service needs. Through strategic planning, coordination, and support, the unit enables the division to operate efficiently, adapt to evolving technology needs, and achieve its mission effectively.

The mission of the Information Technology Division is to develop the long-term infrastructure, services, and strategy necessary to support the University’s mission of learning, discovery, and engagement. The IT Division has the stewardship responsibility for core IT assets on campus and the obligation to provide the services, training, and community building necessary to realize the benefits of those investments across the San Diego State University community.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience working in an information technology environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting a variety of software and hardware issues.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Three years of professional experience supporting Windows and Mac environments, including desktop software, computer hardware, and peripherals.
  • Experience supporting users and technology in a large, networked environment.
  • Experience providing technical support to individuals with varying levels of technology experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Compensation:
Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines.

  • Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($5,787/month).
  • Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,787-$8,430 per month (Step 1-Step 20).
  • Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
